Vito Anthony Castelli was born in Chicago to Rose and Anthony on August 31, 1944. He attended St. Williams Grammar School in Galewood, where Vito met his wife, Donna Macchione. He attended Steinmetz High School and then served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam for nearly two years. Vito returned home in 1967, and less than three years later, he married Donna, and they have been inseparable ever since.
Vito spent his entire career teaching high school students with learning disabilities and college students in speech and communications. The most important thing to Vito was family.
He was a loving big brother to his sister, Angela Castelli, a devoted nephew to Rose’s sister, Elizabeth Druss, loving cousin to Eugene Williamson, and caring son-in-law to Donna’s parents, Butch and Ida Macchione, as well as to Donna’s sisters, Elaine Williamson and Sunday Wegner. While Vito and Donna never had children, they spent their lives mentoring and sharing their love with four younger family members—Sunday’s son Richard, Angela’s Daughter Lainie, Liz’s daughter Lissa, and Elaine’s daughter Eugenia. Vito is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna; his sister, Angela; Richard (Tanya), with sons Nicholas and Katie; Lainie (Daniel), with daughter Nina; Lissa, with daughter Tessa; and Eugenia (Stuart)
