Shirley Ann Dowdy

Shirley Ann Dowdy passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the age of 72. Beloved Wife for a Loving 58 years to Larry Dowdy. Devoted Mother of Tammy (Bob) Weber. Loving Daughter of the late Richard and the late Marie Saile. Fond Grandmother of Robert (Katie) Weber. Dear Sister of Carol Saile. Shirley had many friends in Decaturville, Tennessee and they will hold a Memorial Service in her honor in mid-December when Larry returns home.

Shirley began her life facing significant hardships, growing up in poverty. At the age of 14, she met Larry, who would become her lifelong partner. With dedication and hard work, Shirley and Larry opened The Comet Grill in Cicero, Illinois. In their restaurant, Larry took on the role of cook while Shirley worked as a waitress. Together, they operated the grill for 16 years, serving their community and building a life through their efforts. Among Shirley’s many blessings, her greatest gift from God was her daughter, Tammy, affectionately known as “Dolly.” Tammy brought immense joy and fulfillment to Shirley’s life. In 1998, Shirley and Larry decided to relocate to Tennessee. They enjoyed exploring and traveling through the scenic Smokey Mountains, embracing new experiences together in their later years.

Family and Friends are to gather for the Visitation on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Russo’s Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois 60162 (Located between Mannheim & Wolf Road).  Interment Private. For additional information please call (708) 449-5300.
