Mary DeSanto nee Belmonte passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, while surrounded by her Loving Family at the Golden age of 92 while in the tranquility of her own home. Beloved Wife of the late Anthony for a Loving 39 years. Devoted Mother of John J. and Christopher (Barbara). Loving Daughter of the late Giovanni and the late Lucia C., nee Vercillo, Belmonte. Fond Grandmother of Anthony (Mia) and Antonia, Nicholas and Joseph. Dear Great Grandmother of Giada. Dear Sister of the late Michael (Ann) Belmonte, the late Ernie (the late Helen) Belmonte, the late Peter (the late Phyllis) Belmonte and the late Frank (Marlene) Belmonte. Dear Aunt, Great Aunt and Great Great Aunt to many.
Mary was the matriarch of her Family, always present at her Grandsons' games or school events. As a 60-year parishioner at St. Mary of Celle she was involved in the SMC Little League, Blessed Virgin Society and she also sang in the choir. Her work career started as a Beautician Instructor until she was hired by the Berwyn Police Department. Mary served the city for more than 20 years before retiring in 2002. She was also elected as Commissioner of the North Berwyn Park District for 4 terms. She was passionately active within the Italian American community. She was Director Emeritus of her beloved Calabresi In America Organization, and also was active in Societa San Francesco di Paolo, JCCIA and Casa Italia. During retirement she volunteered at numerous charitable organizations, in addition to being a "Cafe Supervisor" at Russo's Hillside Chapels.
Family and Friends are to gather for the Visitation on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Russo’s Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois 60162 (Located between Mannheim and Wolf Road). Funeral to follow Monday, May 22, 2023 from Russo’s Hillside Chapels at 9:30 a.m. proceeding to St. Mary of Celle Parish, 1428 Wesley Avenue, Berwyn, Illinois 60402.
