Marilyn Herzer (nee Laraia), 94, a longtime resident of Maywood, passed away on February 22, 2025 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Loving wife of 64 years to the late Gene Herzer. Dearest mother of Judith C. Herzer and Mary R. Herzer, both deceased, and of Jeffrey K. (Jeannine) Herzer of St. Joseph, Mo. Beloved daughter of the late Frank N. and Mary F. (nee Peila) Laraia. Dear sister of the late Charlotte A. Laraia, the late Frank A. (the late Eleanor) Laraia and of Joanna E. Laraia of Bensenville.
Friends and family knew Marilyn as a constant source of optimism, light and joy. Marilyn was born in Melrose Park on February 7, 1931 and was a 1948 graduate of Proviso Township High School. She was a talented soprano who sang with the Aeolians Chorus and performed lead roles in numerous musical theatre productions with the Tempo Players and Gallery Players. As a teenager, she sang on her own radio program over WOPA Radio in Oak Park. Marilyn was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Maywood where she conducted choir and later attended St. Luke’s Catholic Church, River Forest.
Family and Friends are to gather for the Visitation on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Russo’s Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois 60162 (Located between Mannheim & Wolf Road) Chapel Service of Christian Burial to be celebrated promptly at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
