Margaret “Peg” Tierney passed away very unexpectedly on Monday, August 28, 2023 at the age of 45. Loving Daughter of the late Robert and the late Maureen, nee O’Shea, Tierney. Dear Sister of Kathy (James) DeMase and Kevin Tierney. Dear Niece, Cousin, co-Worker and Friend to many. Loving Mom to her 2 dogs Andy and Leona and her cat Jane.
Kind, loving, fiercely loyal, gregarious, sometimes obnoxious…these are only a few of the traits that describe Peg. From her first breath in this life, Peg was meant to be seen. If her fiery red head didn’t draw your attention, then her laugh would. If neither of those made you look twice at her, then you are probably one of the many people she stood by to champion a great cause. Peg’s cutting wit and (to her sister, Kathy) obscure sense of humor was another piece of her that always stood out and made her truly one of a kind.
Peg was passionate about many causes and, once committed to a group or activity, gave all of herself to provide for and/or support her family, friends, and co-workers, numerous animal rescue organizations, and first responders such as the Chicago Police Department.
Although she stepped away from her photography in recent years, it was an essential part of her. Most family members and friends remember Peg walking around with her camera, snapping candid shots, and posing with people to capture those moments in time. Peg’s body may no longer be here, but the memories she captured are a piece of her legacy.
Her perseverance led to one of her greatest personal achievements: College graduation. Prior to his passing, Peg’s dad (Bob) asked her to finish her degree. Her dad felt strongly about education and encouraged Peg to finish that part of her education that wasn’t yet complete. On May 13, 2017, Peg’s siblings and friends eagerly gathered for her graduation from Harold Washington College. She graduated with highest honors and received her Associate Degree.
Losing Peg so unexpectedly has shattered all who loved and knew her. Her reach was long. She made a permanent impression on almost anyone she met. Her laugh, biting wit, energy, and infectious smile have left this world; but the imprint she left on our hearts will keep her spirit alive forever.
