Jay "Bird" Mitchell

Jasper “Bird” Mitchell, U.S. Army Veteran, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the age of 73.  Beloved Husband and companion for a loving 21 years to Daniela Screnci.  Devoted Father of Claudia (Richard) Roundtree.  Loving Son of the late Nicholas J. & the late Janice L. Mitchell.  Fond Grandfather of Raymond Roundtree.  Dear Brother of John (Lorry) Mitchell, Nick Mitchell, Victoria (William) Halloran, Mario (Gloria) Mitchell, Michael (Wendy) Mitchell, the late Jenny Mitchell and the late Anthony Mitchell.  Loving Uncle of many Nieces and Nephews. Loving Godfather of Janice and Samantha. Loving Friend of Andy & Pamela Stosur.  Best Companion to Piccolo & Zorro. Best Friend and Partner in Vietnam of Glen "Pop" Lacy. 

Jasper was extremely proud to have served in the United States Army in Vietnam.  He was awarded many medals including: Vietnam Campaign medal, Infantry Badge, 2 Bronze Star medals, the Purple Heart medal U.S. Government medal and Army Commendation medal. Jay served the community for over 51 years as a Barber. In his later years, Jay barbered going to client’s homes. 

Family and Friends are to gather for the Visitation on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Russo’s Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois 60162 (Located between Mannheim & Wolf Road).  Funeral to follow on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from Russo’s Hillside Chapels at 9:00 AM Proceeding to Mater Christi Catholic Church, 2401 S. 10th Avenue, North Riverside, Illinois. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated promptly at 10:00 AM.  Interment Private. For additional information please call (708) 449-5300.
