Fr. August Feccia, CS Obituary

Fr. August Celeste Feccia, CS., passed away peacefully at Villa Scalabrini in Northlake, Il on Friday, January 10, 2025 at the golden age of 89.  He was the loving son of the late Giuseppe and the late Innocenta nee Mazzoni, Feccia. He was born on April 19, 1935 in Chiavenna Rocchetta, Piacenza Province, Italy and was the last of twelve children in the family. He entered the Scalabrinian seminary in Piacenza in the early 1940’s. Fr. August was ordained into priesthood on March 17, 1962, on the day of his parents' 50th anniversary. That same year, he was sent as a Scalabrinian missionary to the USA, where, for over 60 years, served God’s people and the migrants in many communities in Canada (Vancouver, Edmonton and Windsor), and the United States (Los Angeles and Chicago), with much dedication, leadership, commitment and love.  He also served as an associate pastor in Chicago from 1962 to 1965. He was chaplain of the Italian American Federation from 1965 to 1970. Fr. August Feccia was the founder and director of the Italian Cultural Centre in Illinois from 1970 to 1979. In 1979, he moved to Edmonton and served as a priest of the Santa Maria Goretti parish, where he replaced Fr. Giovanni Bonelli. In 1990, he became director of the Villa Scalabrini in California where he served until 1998. Fr. Feccia arrived in Windsor in 1998 to serve as a pastor of St. Angela Merici parish. In 1999, one year after his arrival, he helped found the Scalabrini Charities for the Poor Foundation which provides financial assistance to impoverished families in Mexico, India, and the Philippines. He also received the Italian of the Year Award in 2005. Fr. Feccia has now joined many siblings and confreres who have proceeded him into Gods glory.  He will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews. Particularly Silvia & Giordano Gagliacci and their families, confreres and many friends.
