Dominick F. Castaldo, Sr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family, at the golden age of 98. Beloved Husband of the late Charlotte, nee Segreti, for a loving 68 years. Devoted Father of RoseMarie (Gary) Smith, Dominick Jr. (Carol), and the late JoAnn (Jerold and Susan) Jones. Loving Son of the late Augustino and the late Josephine Castaldo. Fond Grandfather of Tiffany, Tammy, Tia, Jordan, JoAnn, Jerold, Joshua, and Joseph. Fond Great-Grandfather of 15. Dear Brother of the late Augustino, the late John, the late Ambrose, and the late Marie (the late John) Cappelletti. Dear Uncle, Great-Uncle, and Great-Great-Uncle to many.
Dominick Castaldo was a WWII veteran and held the rank of Private First Class of the United States Army. Dominick was a lifelong resident of Berwyn and loved his community. A huge part of his life was the Italian American Civic Organization of Berwyn (IACOB). He was one of the founding members back in the late 70’s, was a bingo caller on Sunday for decades, held positions of treasurer and president of IACOB and was a staple at every event the club held since it’s installation. The club was an integral part of his life, and you could find him on Tuesday’s and Fridays playing cards with his friends. Over the years Dominick adored spending time at his Camper located at the Glenwood RV Resort in Marseilles IL. He would be riding his golf cart, enjoying conversation with his camper friends, spending time with Charlotte and of course building campfires. Partaking in a cigar and a glass of Carlo Rossi Paisano wine after a good meal was Dom’s signature. He was a parishioner and usher at Saint Mary Of Celle Church in Berwyn for many decades. He worked at James and Williams Jewelers in Berwyn and in his later years volunteered at La Grange Hospital. What truly defined Dominick was his love for his family. He was a devoted husband to Charlotte for 68 years and well after, an amazing Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. The family grew so much and had many grandpas, that he was dubbed Grandpa Baccala. He lived for his family and led by example. Dominick was a pillar of his community and the head of his family. Through all of us, Dominick will live forever in our hearts and memories.
