Cathy J. Somers

Cathy J. Somers nee Holakovsky passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 12, 2026, surround by her family. She was born to George and Josephine Holakovsky on November 12, 1958. She graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School and Triton College. Before marriage she worked several different jobs and then went on to serve as President of GSS Graphics & Advertising. Her favorite things to do in life were spending time and traveling with her family and her two sons. She brought a sense of joy and happiness to everyone in her life, known for her laughing, dancing and singing with those she loved. 

Cathy married Glen Somers of Melrose Park at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Melrose Park on April 9, 1988. They were happily married for 38 years, raising their two sons, Glen Jr and Robert, on Brighton Lane in La Grange. Cathy was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved taking care of her family. Cooking was her way of showing love, her Sunday dinners and chicken soup were beloved by her family. She was a gifted gardener and loved to spend time out in her yard tending to her peppers, tomatoes and zucchini. Spending time with her sons gave her the most joy, and she took every opportunity to do so. 

She is survived by her beloved husband Glen Sr, her sons Glen Jr (Lexee) and Robert (Zoe) and her grandson Glen III. She is additionally survived by her siblings Mary Wolff (Frank), Karen Warchol (Ric), Tom Holakovsky (Kathy), Ron Holakovsky (Debbie) and Jim Holakovsky (Janice).

She is joined in heaven by her parents George and Josephine, her in-laws Glen and Rita Somers, her brother Robert Holakovsky and his wife Mary and her brother Richard Holakovsky. 

Family and friends are to gather for the visitation on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Russo’s Hillside Chapel, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside (located between Manheim and Wolf Road). Funeral to follow on Friday, June 19, 2026. All family and friends are to gather directly at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1101 23rd Avenue, Melrose Park. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated promptly at 10:00 AM. Interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. For additional information please call (708) 449-5300.
