Boyd E. Metzger, M.D.

Boyd Ernest Metzger, M.D., passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the golden age of 91. Beloved Husband of the late Lois, nee Witzig, Metzger. Devoted Father of Beth (Mark) Blackwell, Gail (Pat) Park and Greg (Quyen) Metzger. Loving Son of the late Ernst & the late Ella, nee Leuthold, Metzger. Fond Grandfather of Rebecca (Andrei) Pinchuk, Mary (Julian Smyth) Blackwell, Sarah (Ville) Pekkala, Caitlin (Zach) Davidson, Connor Park, Neil (Haley) Park, Anna Park, Eric Park, Ella (Gage) Howell, MyLan Metzger, Tai Metzger and LeAnh Metzger. Fond Great-Grandfather of Katherine Pinchuk, Nicholas Pinchuk, Leah Smyth, Robert Davidson, Theo Davidson, Evie Park, Lilith Park and Lucy Park. Dear Brother of Shirley (the late Joel) Wuthrich, Donald (the late Mary Jane) Metzger, Della (the late Don) Luthi, Ella (John) Martin, Helen (the late Leonard) Anliker, Alvin Metzger, Arthur (Kristy) Metzger, Virgil (Mary) Metzger, Glen (Joyce) Metzger, Arlene (Rodney) Grimm, Harvey (Mary) Metzger, Rodney (Polly) Metzger, Ida (Keith) Kellenberger, and Harold (Patricia) Metzger.

Boyd was born into a farm family from Hills, Minnesota, and spent his childhood in Lester, Iowa. He pursued medical education at the University of Iowa, followed by a residency at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago.

On August 30, 1959, Boyd married Lois. He continued his medical training by completing a fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis and in Terra Haute, Indiana. Before beginning his distinguished career as an Endocrinologist at Northwestern University School of Medicine, Boyd gained international recognition as a researcher specializing in Diabetes in Pregnancy. He served as a faculty member at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for over fifty years.

Boyd and Lois shared a love for travel, visiting more than twenty countries together. He was also an avid photographer, capturing memories from their journeys and everyday life.

Boyd was a devoted and faithful servant of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Chicago Apostolic Christian Church, Hillside, where he worshiped for over sixty years.

Boyd deeply loved his family and children, cherishing the time spent with them.

Family and Friends are to gather for the Visitation on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Russo’s Hillside Chapels, 4500 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois 60162 (Located between Mannheim & Wolf Road). Funeral to follow on Monday, December 29, 2025. All Family & Friends are to gather directly at Chicago Apostolic Christian Church, 1401 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, Illinois for a Visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service to be celebrated promptly at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Elgin, Illinois.
