Anna Sakowski Obituary

Anna Elizabeth Sakowski nee Petruzzi of Green Valley, Arizona, formerly of Crystal Lake, Illinois passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024 at the golden age of 96. Anna was born in Chicago, IL to Celia Petruzzi nee Limarsi and Peter Petruzzi. She was a dear sister to the late Joesph Samuel Petruzzi (Dolores), James William Petruzzi (Hildagard) and Mary Theresa Mandarino (Gene). Proud Aunt of the late Joseph Albert Petruzzi, James Peter Petruzzi, Charles Joseph (Mary) Petruzzi, the late Dolores Rosemary (Mike) Ventura, Peter (Alexandra) Petruzzi, Renee Ann (Steve) Petruzzi, Gina Marie Mandarino, Patricia Ann Mandarino, Mark Anthony (Kimberly) Mandarino, Eugene Nunzio (Melanie) Mandarino and a great Aunt to many.

Anna graduated from Marshall high school in Chicago and worked at Sears Roebuck until she married George Oliver. They moved to then rural Crystal Lake where Anna worked for the Crystal Lake Herald newspaper. Anna and George traveled extensively. George then regaled family with his famous slide shows of their travels. They remained married until George’s death in 1985 at the age of 62.

Anna then had the good fortune to fall in love for a second time when she met Daniel Sakowski. With her marriage to Dan, Ann was a dear sister to the late Stan Sakowski and Mary Jo, dear mother to Dennis (Ava) Sakowski, Joesph (Debbie) Sakowski and the late Jeanine (David) Gower and a dear grandmother to Stephanie, Danielle, Adam, Michael, Timothy, Matthew Sakowski and David, Matthew and the late John Gower. They lived in Crystal Lake in the summer and wintered in Green Valley, AZ until they made Green Valley their permanent residence. They too were frequent travelers and avid square dancers. Anna was married to Dan until his death in 2007 at the age of 86.

Anna then kept herself busy lunching with her Green Valley friends, attending movies and plays with her niece Renee and helping the homeless by making sandwiches and attending mass and helping with church events.
