Aniello Fontano Obituary

Aniello “Red” Fontano passed away peacefully on Monday, May 24, 2021, in the tranquility of is own home, while surrounded by his loving family, at the golden age of 92.  Beloved Husband of the late Gilda nee Eterno.  Devoted Father of Dominic (Celeste), John (Margaret), Mary Carm, Neil (Corinne), and the late Jimmy (the late Margaret).  Loving Son of the late Vincenzo and the late Mary, nee Zito, Fontano.  Fond Grandfather of Dominic and Joey, Teresa, James and John, Neil and Kevin.  Dear Brother of Carmella Fontano, the late Antoinette (the late Tony Vitale and the late Joe Lagarbo), the late John (the late Carmella), the late Fran (the late Salvatore) Garcia, and the late Mary (the late Alfonso) DeVivo.  Dear Uncle, Great-Uncle, and Great-Great Uncle to many.  
Aniello “Red” was the Founder and Operator of Fontano Subs in the Little Italy Neighborhood of Chicago on Polk and Carpenter. Since 1963.

 

Family and Friends are to gather for the Visitation and Funeral on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, 1224 W. Lexington St., Chicago, IL 60607, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.  Funeral to immediately follow with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated promptly at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will remain private for Family only.  Arrangements are being handled by Russo’s Hillside Chapels.  For additional information please call (708) 449-5300.  Please sign Aniello’s guestbook. Despite new CDC guidelines, Effective May 13, 2021, Russo’s Hillside Chapels requires ALL INDIVIDUALS entering the Funeral Home, regardless of your vaccination status, to wear a mask or facial covering.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

We ask that you exit the funeral home after paying your respects so that all visitors have an opportunity to do the same. Please refrain from bringing food or beverages into the funeral home. The coffee room is not available at this time.
